Consciousness Studies

This section of our website and of Green Earth Foundation concerns itself with studies of consciousness and its transformations. We can distinguish three paradigms in the study of consciousness:

1. Studies of altered states of consciousness (ASCs), from dreams and meditation, to psychedelics and near-death experiences (NDEs).

2. Studies of the presumed permanent structures of consciousness, often called levels, planes or dimensions of consciousness.

3. Studies of the stages and metaphors of consciousness development, as found in Eastern and Western spiritual traditions, and in the writings of philosophers such as Sri Aurobindo, Oswald Spengler, Jean Gebser and Ken Wilber.
